Curse of Strahd Remixed: Bog Mummies and Huecuva

Today we have two new conversions of some older edition undead monsters. The swamp marsh dwelling Bog Mummy and the cursed undead priests known as Huecuva (who first appeared in the original Fiend Folio).

Bog Mummy

Bog mummy img2Wherever a spark of unlife or negative energy touches a corpse naturally preserved by swamp mud, the result is a bog mummy. Bog mummies are always found roaming the place where they arose, and very rarely venture from it.

In the Ivlis Marsh of Barovia, the powerful hag-mother, Baba Lysaga, provides the spark of negative energy needed to create bog mummies. The skin of the bog mummy is leathery, tanned by the mild acid of the peat bog. It is clothed in tattered rags, and the remains of the thongs that bound its hands and the strangling cord that bit deeply into its neck dangle from its body. The monster has incredible strength and its rotting slam attacks are powerful.

1d6: Magic Gypsy Candles

Here are six new magic items for D&D (5e, but really they can be inserted easily into any edition or any other fantasy RPG), magic candles (and one magical incense)!

white candleThe gypsy folk known as the Vistani, traveling people living under the protection of Count Strahd von Zerovich in the Domain of Barovia, have very glamorous and mystic ways about them. They carry magical trinkets, potions and other treasures. Among their precious mystical arsenal you will find a varied selection of enchanted candles. Magic candles, like most gypsy treasures, seem most ordinary and do not reveal their magical nature easily. These candles usually work their magic in the area of the candle flame’s light though some rely on the candle’s smoke for their magical effect. Magic candles may be snuffed and their magical effects used again later. The Vistani will never openly share these candles nor will they ever reveal the exceptional secrets behind imbuing spells into wax.

Curse of Strahd Remixed: Strahd Skeletons and Vargouilles

Two conversions to 5e. First, from Ravenloft: Realm of Terror, Strahd’s personal skeleton minions. A nice complement to the Strahd zombies already presented in Curse of Strahd, they are the same CR and you could very easily swap them in their place.

Strahd skeletons are magically animated undead monsters, created as guardians or warriors by Count Strahd Von Zarovich, the vampire lord of Barovia.

Strahd Skeleton imgUnlike common skeletons, Strahd’s creatures still bear bits of leathery flesh, as well as shreds of clothing. Otherwise, they are nothing but bones. Their motions are swift but jerky. In the blink of an eye, they can attain full speed from a dead stop. They have no odor other than the faint suggestions of dust and freshly dug earth.

Curse of Strahd Remixed: Undead Swarms

Two ravenous unliving swarms for your Curse of Strahd game or anytime you want to pop in a little undead variation into a game. These conversions are originally from Libris Mortis: The Book of the Undead.  First we have the blood draining Bloodmote Cloud (CR6) and then we have a diseased Swarm of Bone Rats (CR2) to chew through the party.

Curse of Strahd Remixed: 50 New Gothic Trinkets

The release of Curse of Strahd is upon us and I am going to be posting some of my own creations for this campaign. To start out with I have come up with another trinket table, this time we have 50 new gothic trinkets to match the 50 released by WotC. You can combine them to do a full 100 or just roll on either table seperately. You could also use this as a random table for interesting treasures in any fantasy or gothic horror game.
  1. A heavy iron key to cemetary gates.
  2. A box with a small hole when peered in reveals a grotesque version of your surroundings.
  3. A candle that casts twisted and disturbing shadows.
  4. A wooden stake carved with icons of different deities.

1d10: New Ioun Stones

I love Ioun stones, who doesn't right? They are classic, cool D&D magic items. No item slot needed just throw it up in the air and let it go to work gravitating around your noggin.

Ioun Stone

Wondrous item, rarity varies (Rare, Very Rare and Legendary require attunement)

An Ioun stone is named after Ioun, a god of knowledge and prophecy revered on some worlds. Many types of Ioun stone exist, each type a distinct combination of shape and color.
